Ovum donation is used as a last resort, in couples who wish to have a child, but could not achieve pregnancy with their own eggs, or in cases in which the woman is a carrier of a genetic disease that can be transmitted to the offspring. The procedure is done by In Vitro Fertilization, replacing the own ovule with a donated ovule.
Egg donors are women, usually between the ages of 21 and 35, who are willing to give their eggs to a recipient voluntarily and completely anonymously.
The recipient undergoes special treatment to prepare the endometrium to receive the embryos at the indicated time.
